National Council for the Social Studies Summer Virtual Conference

5/1/2026

The National Council for the Social Studies invites educators to attend the fourth annual Summer Virtual Conference on June 23-24, 2026

As we mark 250 years of U.S. history and 25 years since 9/11, this year's timely theme, "From Revolution to Resilience: Exploring America's Past, Present, and Future", emphasizes the importance of connecting students with the full complexity of American history, using inclusive content and dynamic teaching strategies.

During this two-day virtual conference, attendees will explore America250 through a variety of active, participant-centered sessions. As an attendee, expect to:

  • Examine ways to connect historical understanding with civic action through service learning, global perspectives, current events integration, and civic dialogue.
  • Discover approaches to teaching continuity and change across time, examining how events like the Revolution and 9/11 shape today’s political, social, and cultural conversations.
  • Learn interactive methods such as student-led inquiry, simulations, role play, discussion-based learning, and performance assessments that deepen engagement and historical thinking.
  • Find new approaches to teaching the American Revolution and Constitution that incorporate diverse narratives, contested meanings, and enduring legacies.
  • Explore strategies for teaching national crises through inquiry, trauma-informed practices, and civic reflection.
